Non-Restorative Cover Baths

THIS SERVICE QUALIFIES FOR UNIVERSAL BLUE LABELS

Please Note: This is an advanced cleaning method common in standard conservation practices. It leaves no trace elements behind (think of it as a “liquid” eraser) and is treated by third party grading companies (CGC,CBCS, etc.) the same way as standard dry cleaning processes. It is safe for the paper and does NOT use hydrogen peroxide. It does not remove tanning or dust shadows; only superficial buildup. For traditional comic books with one two or three staples.

  • $100 -$150 for books worth up to $3000

  • 2% of FMV for books worth over $3000 ($150 minimum)

Tape Removal

THIS SERVICE QUALIFIES FOR UNIVERSAL BLUE LABELS

Tape removal has always been regarded as a non-restorative procedure. It is not only safe for the paper but helps to prevent further degradation by the tape’s adhesive.

  • Cost to remove tape along a book’s entire spine (on one side of paper) starts at $200.

  • Please reach out for a consultation and quote.

Traditional Conservation/Restoration

  • This includes tear seals, spine split seals, reinforcement, pieces added, wet cover cleanings & color touch.

  • Work in this category would garner either a Conserved or Restored label if submitted to a third party grading company.

  • A comic book with a completely split cover needing to be sealed & reinforced starts at $150 and goes up depending on extent of work and value of the book.

Books With “Married” Parts

  • Have a comic with a Green Qualified label because of married parts? With a conservation treatment the book can qualify for a Grey/Blue Conserved Label, and in many cases the technical grade will get a bump. Please reach out for a consultation and quote.

CGC Grading Submissions

  • I can submit books to be graded through my account, or through yours with completed submission forms. I get 20% of grading tiers with my membership that is passed down to clients, with an additional small cost of processing and handling.

Please use the “Contact” tab above to send a message to discuss your book(s). I can breakdown what work will likely benefit the book and the estimated grade afterwards. Items on premise are insured by a third party service. I try to vet books that won’t pass for work due to fragility or other factors. There is a $15 minimum charge for books that do not pass for work and will be sent back as is.

Terms of Service:

I am not able to guarantee any grade that a third party grading company gives a book after work is done to it, but I will do my best to give an accurate guess based on my experience. Grade and page quality is never a guarantee and CGC grades books at their discretion. This is a risk that you accept and is inherent in the work performed on your book(s).

Submissions have an average turnaround time of 1-4 months. Some are turned around faster, and some take longer. Estimates for completion time that are given are not guaranteed.

Color-Touch removal is the only service that I can not give a 100% guarantee an unrestored third party label will be given after the work is completed. While my success rate is high, in rare instances books must be re-worked and resubmitted to garner an unrestored label. No additional work cost would be charged, but additional grading and shipping fees would apply. Color-touch removal jobs have a higher risk and that is a risk the customer accepts.

While absolutely rare, superficial/minor damage can occur in handling books of any era. Every precaution is taken to ensure safe handling of your items, but ultimately these are ephemeral objects. Phantom Restoration, LLC is not liable for any damage caused to your books while being worked on. This includes but is not limited to tears, creases, indents, color loss and spine splits. In rare instances where superficial damage has occurred the difference in value for the book has been compensated.
